New Creatures is composed of two interdependent installations: New Creatures | HEADS and New Creatures | BODIES

Heads (a precursor to Headspinz) takes place in a photo-booth like set. You press the GO button and the camera starts recording your face and a computer generates a time-stretched creature. The stretch is created by cutting the video into many 1-pixel wide vertical strips and then selecting strips back in time when reassembling the image.

In Bodies, the participant records their whole body for 4 seconds, then the computer generates a time-creature, by stretching the image in time.

The work was an evolving process, undertaken with the support of Trinity Square Video’s first Artist-in-Residency program, and exhibited as part of the Images Festival 2005.
